If you are fortunate enough to have a robust arsenal of email contacts, then you have positioned yourself well. Now to maximize your mass email marketing, you have to begin segmenting your list. Marketing messaging should be tailored to the audience.  The features that might attract one audience may not be attractive to another. An effective email marketing plan knows how to sell its features to diverse audiences. Here are some ways to segment your list:

· Industry – What do they do? And how will your product help them do it better or simpler?

·Geographically – Depending on your product, where they live may factor heavily into whether or not they need what you’re selling. An email promotion for snow tires probably won’t get much traction in California or Hawaii.

·Stage of the Sales Cycle – If they have abandoned a shopping cart or looked at an item without purchasing it, contact them and remind them. If they have purchased something, offer complementary items or check in to see how they like it.

·Vendors or Customers – Are they selling to you or buying from you?

·Customers or Prospects – Have they bought from you before or are you trying to win their business?

·Demographics: Age, gender, and income can all be factors in determining who to email your marketing to and when.
